The Answer Report · for Australian agencies

When a business asks AI which agency to hire, who does it name?

AI tools now answer the questions your next clients ask, often before anyone visits a website. The Answer Report shows what those buyers ask, what AI tells them, which tools your competitors offer, and where your agency stands.

Free. Built from public data. Your agency's results stay private.

The thesis

From pages to answers

Search engines gave buyers ten pages and left the research to them. AI tools now do that work: they split the question, read the sources and hand back one answer. A page that ranks is worth less when the answer arrives first.

Then

  1. A business owner types a few keywords
  2. Ten pages come back
  3. They read, compare and decide for themselves
  4. Your page had to rank

Now

  1. They ask the whole question
  2. AI splits it, searches and reads the sources
  3. One answer comes back, naming two or three agencies
  4. Your agency has to be named in it

The same shift reached the other side of the market. Understanding customers used to cost a consultancy's fee and a quarter of a year, so most businesses never did it. AI makes the research cheap enough to cover a whole market every quarter, and to place every agency in it. Read the thesis

How AI disrupts

Four kinds of answer

Every answer used to cost someone's time: the buyer's, a developer's, an expert's. AI makes each of them cheap, in four ways.

1

AI answers

AI reads public sources and writes the answer.

Frees
The buyer's research.
Value goes to
The AI platform, and whoever it names.
For an agency
Being named when a business asks which agency to hire.
2

Tools

A small web app that runs on the buyer's own numbers. AI helped build it; none runs inside it.

Frees
The developer's time. A six-figure build becomes days.
Value goes to
You, if it uses your prices, rules or data.
For an agency
A website cost estimator on your own rate card.
3

AI apps

A tool that reads the buyer's own material and explains it.

Frees
The expert's first conversation.
Value goes to
You, if it holds your knowledge.
For an agency
An audit that reads a prospect's site and says what to fix first.
4

Agents

Something that does the job for the buyer, with permission.

Frees
The doing: forms, bookings, set-up.
Value goes to
Whoever the buyer trusts to act.
For an agency
An agent that scopes the project and books the first call.
The test for every tool: does it need something only you have?

What you get

The Answer Report

What your buyers ask, what AI tells them, and which tools answer them. In two parts, both free.

Part 1 · Your market Shared

  • The questions businesses ask when they choose an agency, mapped by buying stage
  • How much of that asking AI answers before anyone clicks
  • Which agencies AI names, and where it gets its answers
  • Which tools agency websites offer, and the gaps none of them fill
  • What the most-named agencies have in common

Part 2 · Your agency Private

  • Your share of AI answers, against the market
  • What AI says about you, and what it gets wrong
  • What your site answers, against what buyers ask
  • Your tools, against the market's
  • A plan: about ten moves, each with the kind of answer it needs

Why it matters for agencies

A way back into the strategy conversation

Execution is where agencies are being squeezed. AI writes the generic article for free, and clients are taking work in house: in one 2026 survey, 65% of agencies said a client had moved work in house in the past year (Basis).

Strategy is where clients want more. Asked what they expect from agencies now that AI is here, 74% of 400 client decision-makers said strategic thinking, and only 29% put lower fees first.

The report gives you that conversation. It shows what your clients' buyers ask, what AI tells them, which tools would answer them, and what to build first. Start with your own agency, then run it for your clients.

How it's made

Built from public data, checked by a person

What businesses ask

Searches, plus their own words in forums and reviews. A question counts when two kinds of evidence agree.

Who answers

Every agency's site and footprint, plus the sources nobody sells: platform guides, communities, directories and media.

What AI says

The questions put to several AI tools, several times each, from Australia. Answers vary, so we report ranges.

Which tools exist

Every agency site in the market, surveyed for tools, AI apps and agents.

No interviews and no access to your systems: we need your agency's website and nothing else. A person checks every agency report before it is sent. How the report is made

Questions

Is it really free?

Yes. Both the market report and your agency's report are free. We hope you'll want to run it for your clients later, but nothing is owed.

What do you need from me?

Your agency's name and website. Everything else comes from public data: searches, forums, reviews, websites and AI answers.

When will I get it?

The first issue, on Australian agencies, is in production. We'll email your report when it's published.

Who sees my results?

Only you. The market report shows the market as a whole and doesn't single anyone out. Your agency's report is private.

Is this a ranking?

No. AI answers change from one run to the next, so we report each agency's share of answers with a range, never a rank.

How accurate is it?

As accurate as public evidence allows, and every report says where that stops. Forums over-represent the articulate, reviews the finished, and nothing behind a login is visible.

Who's behind it?

Aptigram Studio, a workspace of AI agents that research, build and run apps for businesses, with a person approving their work. The report is made the same way. The thesis explains why we built it.
